what this medicine treats

Below are the five areas patients most often come in for — pain, an overactive nervous system, hormonal cycles, digestion, and the depleted state that sits below ordinary tiredness. They overlap, and a single treatment often works across more than one. Hover, or tap, for more on each.

Why Chinese medicine

In my early twenties, a period of sustained stress and anxiety brought me to the limits of understanding life purely through the mind. What I had thought of as something to manage or overcome began revealing itself as a call from the body — an insistence to be felt, recognised, and included.

Over time, this inquiry led me to Chinese medicine — a clear, coherent way of understanding the relationship between body and mind, and a set of powerful, practical tools for working with it directly. My work now centres on practising acupuncture in its most potent, contemporary form — drawing on the most current models, and refining them continually in the dynamic setting of a busy community clinic in Haggerston.

Common questions

A few of the things people most often ask before a first treatment. If there's something else on your mind, just ask.

Does acupuncture hurt?+
Not really, though you might feel something. The needles are very fine, and most insertions feel more like an odd sensation than actual pain. Comfort is always the priority. A lot of people find treatments genuinely relaxing, and it's not unusual to drift off during a session.
Is acupuncture safe?+
Yes. When performed by a fully accredited practitioner (like a BAcC member), acupuncture is extremely safe. I use sterile, single-use needles and follow rigorous hygiene protocols during every session.
What conditions can acupuncture treat?+
A wide range — from physical complaints like sciatica, lower back pain and tennis elbow, through to deeper, more systemic issues such as hormonal conditions and the side effects of chemotherapy. Stress and tension play a large role in how the body holds onto pain and develops other problems. At its core, acupuncture is a powerful way to relax: it helps the body release long-held patterns of tension, giving you more room to function in everyday life.
Are there any side effects?+
One of the reasons many people turn to acupuncture is its ability to create meaningful clinical results with very minimal risk. Side effects are uncommon and, when they do occur, are usually mild — like light bruising or brief soreness at the needle site. Most people leave feeling calm, clear, and often more energised.
